Navitas Learning and Teaching Services offers a range of professional development programs that are designed to promote contemporary teaching, encourage sharing of the great practice across our network of teachers and to support the move to Navitas Core Moodle.

Our suite of courses explores practical strategies and guiding principles for teaching in blended and online environments.
The content, structure and activities of the courses are designed to develop core skills, showcase innovations and share strategies which can be adapted into teaching practice.
1. Effective Teaching at Navitas
Learning outcomes
- Describe how your teaching practice is situated within the higher education landscape and Navitas context
- Explain the importance of aligning teaching, learning and assessment activities for coherence using constructive alignment as a principle
- Appraise a variety of learner-centred teaching strategies in the context of higher education
- Appraise a variety of feedback and assessment strategies
- Evaluate your own teaching practice against established higher education standards
2. Engagement & Motivation
This 5-week course examines how we as teachers can support and encourage student engagement and motivation for learning in the online environment. The content, structure, activities and design of the course will provide you with an action learning approach to improving the effectiveness of their teaching in an online or blended environment.
Learning outcomes
- Discuss the importance of student (and teacher) engagement and motivation
- Participate in, and reflect on, the purpose of introductory and other activities in a course
- Use learning tools to analyse class discussions and make suggestions for improving engagement and motivation in your own course
- Develop strategies that support a reflective and scholarly approach to your teaching practice
- Develop and present a plan for the improvement of your teaching practice with particular regard to student engagement
- Engage in, and contribute to a shared community of practice
3. Assessment Marking & Feedback

- Describe your role as an educator in relation to managing assessment and providing feedback
- Discuss the main issues involved in assessment marking and feedback
- Develop strategies to improve marking and feedback practice
- Discuss the range of technologies that support assessment in the online environment, including Turnitin
- Engage in, and contribute to a shared community of practice
4. Learning Design Essentials
Learning outcomes
- Evaluate your teaching practice in order to establish key priorities for reviewing and (re)developing an aligned curriculum to maximise student success
- Compose a narrative to describe your unit
- Apply the key principles behind active learning, particularly in a blended learning environment
- Document student activities using lesson plans
- Reflect on the experience of being a student in an online learning environment
- Engage in, and contribute to, a shared community of practice
5. Blended Learning Essentials

- Implement a range of online teaching strategies to engage students in learning
- Apply skills in the use of learning technologies

6. Building in Navitas Core Moodle
Learning outcomes
- Describe your technology-enhanced learning and teaching practices through established frameworks
- Recognise the pedagogical affordances of tools on Moodle
- Create a Moodle solution to address a specific learning and teaching issue
- Explain key considerations relating to accessibility and navigational issues in regards to your Moodle solution
- Evaluate your Moodle solution against established criteria and standards
