‘Learning to Teach Online’ MOOC

How do you design a MOOC that maximises the personalised experience? How do you keep the student engaged? What then, are the implications for curriculum design? In 2014, UNSW Australia presented a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on ‘Learning to Teach Online’, jointly facilitated by UNSW Art & Design and the UNSW Learning and Teaching Unit. The MOOC attracted over 25,000 enrolments from 184 countries.

In this seminar, two of the academic staff who designed and delivered the MOOC course, Simon McIntyre and Negin Mirriahi, discuss how they approached the design and development of the course to maximise the personalised experience for participants, what they learned from how students engaged, and lessons for online and blended learning design. Changes made to the 2nd offering of the MOOC based on evaluation from the previous year will also be covered.
