Academic Integrity Awareness Week at ACAP

Academic integrity (AI) is fundamental to ACAP‘s operations as an academic community. AI describes thoughts and actions which demonstrate respect and honesty towards your fellow learners and scholars. It is the acknowledgement of sources, the commitment to open and ethical academic conduct, and the foundation of research, learning and teaching in higher education.

The inaugural Academic Integrity Awareness Week (16th October to 23rd October) was a collaborative event between ACAP, the Library and Student Learning Support. The goal of the week was to raise awareness of the importance of academic integrity and to highlight policy and practice to students and staff. Events throughout the week included:

  • An in-class activity endorsing academic integrity (AI) education presented by academic teachers.
  • A Padlet wall competition where students posted and collaborated on the topic, ‘Why does AI matter?’ – the winning post received a prize.
  • Webinars about referencing and plagiarism run by the Student Learning Support team.

As part of the event, academic and other staff were also invited to share their messages on different themes around AI and post them across digital platforms including the AI Padlet wall, the Student Launch Pad (an online community space for first year students) and TeachComm (an online community space for ACAP teachers). Here are some the messages shared by various staff:

It is our role as educators to create and support a culture of academic integrity to help students realise the importance of this ethical attitude and have the best chance at success in their studies and future career. Beyond this week of awareness, ACAP will continue to promote AI awareness throughout the students’ course progression.
