Hot tips for new online teachers

This introductory session is aimed at staff that are new to online teaching and who may want some guidance about how to engage with students and structure their communication with their class throughout the term.

During the session, specific key examples or ‘hot tips’ will be given with regards to:

  • How to prepare for the start of class and set the right tone e.g. options for welcome messages, ice breakers, structuring your class communication and sharing expectations for discussion forums etc
  • How to engage students in online learning and in preparing students for assignments e.g. options for when and how to provide extra assignment information; creating opportunities for students to ask questions, discuss assignments; options for giving feedback;
  • How to effectively close classes and finish the subject/unit/course.
