International Higher Education Student Flows – better understanding the global picture

There is a strong understanding of inbound student mobility into Australia – with an established range of data sources that provide precise insight on who is coming to Australia to study. However, comprehending the full global picture of international student flows and Australia’s position within them is far more challenging.

Navitas, in partnership with consulting firm Nous Group and Austrade, sought to uncover the nuances of these international student flows by integrating disparate sources of international higher education data to better understand the macro-trends in global student mobility from source countries to major destinations countries and gain greater insight on the trends in the global higher education sector. This project was made possible through funding from the Australian Department of Education: Enabling Growth and Innovation program.

This recording presents the results of three in-depth and unique case studies based on this innovative data-driven project, including:

  • Global product preferences for key source countries and alignment with the Australian market.
  • Deep dive on the impact of country-specific policy responses on student mobility.
  • Understanding the maturity of destination countries and emerging Australian competitors.

The team also demonstrate a new online tool for examining global student flows that will be of great value to professionals who work in international education around the world.
