Developing a Professional Teacher Identity

About this module

What motivated you to become a teacher? Can you articulate your values as an educator? Does your current practice align to your professional goals? In this module, you will discover the benefits of strengthening your teacher identity as well as the psychological factors which can support your professional development. You will consider Navitas’ values and vision in relation to your own and develop a vision for your teaching development over the next 5 years. In the final assessment, you will create a summary that clarifies your values and vision, supporting your evolving current practice aligning with your future professional goals.

Learning outcomes

TEN modules are designed to support you with the delivery of high-quality student experiences, while building teaching capabilities, embracing learning and teaching challenges, and being responsive to changes in education. On successful completion of this module you will be able to:

Knowledge Discuss professional teacher identity (values, beliefs and assumptions) in the higher education context
Skills Appraise your professional teacher identity in the light of professional, legal and ethical responsibilities associated with being a teacher in the Navitas context
Application Formulate a personal teaching philosophy that has been informed by the responsibilities of the profession

Domain: Reflecting on Teaching Practice

This collection of capabilities enables you to reflect on your learning and teaching practice, as well as apply scholarly models of critical reflection.

Delivery

TEN modules are available on the L&T Moodle platform, and you will have continuous access to the module from when you start. There will be light-touch moderation, various opportunities for peer-to-peer interaction, as well as multiple assessment submission points throughout the year. This module requires approximately 3-5 hours to complete.

Successful completion

Upon successful completion of the final assessment task you will be awarded with a Navitas badge for this module to add to your Credly | Acclaim backpack.
