Get to know Zoom (web conferencing): come and play!

Australia/Sydney 3:30pm | Wed 28th September
America/New York 1:30am | Wed 28th September
Europe/London 6:30am | Wed 28th September

Presenters:
Yindta Whittington – Research & Project Officer – Learning and Teaching Services
Georgie Lowe – Networks and Communities Officer – Learning and Teaching Services

When it comes to making video calls, conducting online training or delivering webinars there have been a lot of frustrations with web conferencing because of confusing interfaces, time lags, audio issues and blurry pixels. (See the video below for a comical showcase of all the above!)

But there’s a new(ish) kid on the block: Zoom. It was identified as a disruptive innovation in Gartner evaluations of the web conferencing industry. It sounded so good to us that after a short trial and fast romance we decided to use Zoom as our preferred software for online PD & Events.

Come along to this regular Zoom play session if you are running a webinar/meeting/training session (or thinking about running one). Get familiar with the software and see what all the fuss is about.

In this session, you’ll get the opportunity to ask any questions, press any buttons and play with:

  • Being a host
  • Muting other participants
  • Screensharing
  • Giving control of the screen to someone else
  • Streaming video (flawlessly! With sound!)
  • Make someone a co-host
  • Housekeeping tips for running your own session

For more information see our intro article or for a pre-flight checklist for running a zoom session.
