Opening a door to teacher observation and CPD: an Omani story

Opening a door to teacher observation and CPD: an Omani story

Australia/Sydney 8:00pm | Thurs 30th June
Europe/London 11:00am | Thurs 30th June
America/New York 6:00am | Thurs 30th June

Presenter: Kristin Walters – Academic Team Leader, MTC Oman

How do you create a culture of continuous learning in a newly established college where teaching staff come from many different professional and cultural backgrounds? And how do you shift from a ‘tick-box’ teacher evaluation framework to a developmental approach which encourages all teachers to keep learning – not just those who don’t meet prescribed standards?

In this Q&A session, Kristin will take us through some of the ideas and experiences she presented at the 2016 TESOL Arabia conference. She will briefly outline the evolution of a teacher development program using the Cambridge teaching competency framework to inform teaching practice and evaluation, concluding with some thoughts about where the program and teacher development can go from here.

kristin waltersKristin Walters has been working in English Language Teaching for many years, having started teaching in Australia and then overseas in Malaysia. She has been a teacher trainer with Navitas’ Australian TESOL Training Centre (ATTC) and is currently working as Academic Team Leader at the Military Technical College in Muscat, Oman.
